The Taste & See OBT•1000 Vision

(Initial Draft compiled by David Joel Hamilton; October 19, 2020)

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

(2Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)

A Great Need

There are many facets that together describe the spiritual need that exists in our world. One of them has to do with the lack of engagement with the Scriptures. Multiplied millions (even billions!) experience Bible poverty – a shortage of the Word of God – in their lives. The story of Samuel begins with this dire declaration, “The word of the LORD was rare in those days” (1Sa 3:1 NIV). That is still true today – many generations after Samuel’s day. Far too many people have rare encounters with the powerful life-changing “word of the LORD” – if they have any at all. Many barriers exist which make it difficult for men and women, boys and girls to engage with the Scriptures. Some of them may be social, cultural, religious, or political. Others may be financial, educational, motivational or linguistic. All of these issues need to be addressed until all people everywhere have the opportunity to engage with the Bible. Why is this so important? Well, it is through the Word of God that people can come to know, love and obey the God of the Word.
